your humor style:
CLEAN | COMPLEX | DARK

You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean pretentious. You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that the Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat.

I guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer.

Your sense of humor takes the most thought to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my opinion.

You probably loved the Office. Rounding out the lineup will be a new band called THE MADEIRA...

ANNOUNCING 'THE MADEIRA'!

THE MADEIRA is a brand new surf music project featuring members of the SPACE COSSACKS, THE TROUBADOURS and DESTINATION: EARTH!

Grounded in the traditional sounds of the surf genre's early 60's heyday, THE MADEIRA combine high energy performances reminiscent of THE ATLANTICS and DICK DALE with exotic melodies and an unusually high level of musicianship.

Visit THE MADEIRA's new temporary website at http://www.surfguitar101.com/TheMadeira/index.html for a brief bio and free mp3 demos!!!

And see THE MADEIRA live for the first time at SURF ROCK NIGHT!!!

*SURF ROCK NIGHT*
SATURDAY, JUNE 5th @ ZANIES TOO
(5914 E. 10th Street, Indianapolis)
THE VOLCANOS, THE MADEIRA & THE TROUBADOURS
9:30 p.m. Over 21.

'7.ZARK.7' ISSUES LONG-THREATENED SOLO RELEASE!

7.Zark.7 of DESTINATION: EARTH! fame has been threatening to release a solo project for many years, and it's finally happened. The new disc, 'Absolute Disintegration Of Available Mass,' is a collection of electronic, techno, ambient and experimental sounds. Though a far cry from the surf-rock mayhem for which he's known (and more similar to his work with 'THE UNEMPLOYED,' whom you may remember from the GELATINOUS PRODUCTIONS 2004 SAMPLER compilation), the dozen tracks collected here are a fascinating listen in their own right. One of the songs, "Toe Tapper," was recently previewed on the IndianapolisMusic.net mp3 compilation for independent artists. According to 7.Zark.7's liner notes, 'Absolute Disintegration Of Available Mass' was "produced and sequenced scientifically to simulate the progression of organic life toward existence of a purely virtual nature..." And it's one heck of a journey, we assure you.

For more information on ordering this limited release, please visit the Gelatinous Productions site at http://gelatinousproductions.i8.com

LIVE LONG AND PROSPER

For those of you who have been keeping up with the data, DESTINATION: EARTH! played two final Debriefing Sessions this month, an all-vocal show at the beloved Melody Inn, and a one-time spacey experimental outing at Radio Radio.

D:E! REVIEWED BY COSMIK DEBRIS E-ZINE!

For the first time since the last, DESTINATION: EARTH! has been reviewed very favorably by DJ Johnson of the nearly legendary COSMIK DEBRIS E-ZINE (also known as the guy who last said that D:E! would "wipe the floor with Man Or Astroman"). Humanoid Johnson had this to say...

"More fun, thundering surf/spy/spacerock from the 23rd century, brought to us by a trio of aliens who have come back in time to give us the ultimate sneak preview at a greatest hits album. At least that's what they claim, and as they're aliens and therefore heavily armed with those... BZZZT! laser thingies, I'm not going to be the one to say "nuh UH!"... I find myself pulled into wild space battles by the crazy theremin and the hyper drums, amused by the unexpected mid-song voice samples saying things like "I'll take a can opener to that funny suit of yours and tear you apart," and generally entertained by the entire package of a good band with a clever gimmick and 16 original songs that rock hard amid the reverb. This is album number three for DESTINATION: EARTH!, and each one has been significantly stronger than the previous. That's good news for the rejuvenating instro surf scene."

Many thanks to the folks at COSMIK DEBRIS for their continued support!!!

RELATED EVENTS!

DESTINATION: EARTH! CDs and videos will continue to be available for online ordering at http://destinationearth.htmlplanet.com

This concludes our Debriefing Sessions here on your world, for the time being. When not in the process of taking over the universe, members of the DESTINATION: EARTH! crew can also be found performing auditory experiments in such musical units as the moody yet hook-filled FILM AT ELEVEN (http://filmateleven.i8.com), the gloomy doomy groovy DEVIL TO PAY (http://deviltopay.net), and the spunky, quirky minimalist rocking HIPSTER ZERO (http://hipsterzero.i8.com). All of these quality auditory purveyors deserve your attention and support.

-Commander 007, out!

Demons Dance Alone, but the Residents Rock...

    <lj:music>THE RESIDENTS - 'Stars & Hank Forever'</lj:music>

Professor Z and I embarked to the Chicago sector this past Tuesday for our much-ballyhood attendance of the Residents performance there. Knowing full well that the eyeball-wearing ones are about as likely to play somewhere closer to Indianapolis as they are to autograph mug shots of themselves, I knew that this was the time to see them. Well, the trip was turbulent at times and the House of Blues proved to be a very well hidden establishment for our tracking devices, but we finally made it (thanks to a one-hour lapse in the time tables between the two locations, I should point out).

Unlike the Residents' early performance footage in which there is very little interaction with an audience, the Demons Dance Alone show allowed us to get up close and personal (well, as personal as they're likely to get anyway, since each member has remained anonymous for the last thirty years). But in contrast to what one might expect, the setting was relatively intimate, and the band very impressive. The four-member backing band consisted of a keyboard/bass player, female vocals/keyboardist, guitarist, and percussionist. I had a difficult time telling whether they were all actually playing everything live or just miming along to a backing track, but by the conclusion of the show I was convinced that it was all being performed live. Each of the four members of the backing band was dressed in some type of camo attire, and one member had a light-up single eye peering through his headpiece. Of these four, my hunch is that the female vocalist, percussionist and bass/keyboard player are original members (former guest guitarist Snakefinger died in the early nineties, so this Resident was obviously a replacement). Though faceless, each member was distinguished by their unique playing style, as well as their walk (very funny). The female vocalist hobbled along like a 90-year-old woman while the percussionist swung back and forth like Animal on the Muppet Show.

Center stage was occupied by the original lead vocalist, decked out in a typically theatric getup with a long skinny nose piece, a female vocalist in similar attire and mask that has been performing with the Residents for a number of years, and the devilish character mascot featured in the latest album's graphics (and serving as comic relief on many an occasion). All three of them gave wonderful performances, and despite my pre-show fear of becoming bored by halfway through the set, I wasn't for a minute. The main frontman's story about meeting James Brown in the sixties, as well as his amusing alteration of the lyrics to the opening theme from the Demons Dance Alone album, about wanting to have a hit on MTV (they played this track three times during the course of the set) were highlights. The crowd was generally much more mature than I expected, considering the type of material involved, but it makes sense as the band has been around for thirty years at this point. Like sharks smelling blood in the water, however, I became a target for those few members of the audience that weren't so well behaved. I spent at least half the show being bombarded by the purse of the drunk lady standing next to me (until she spilled a drink on the lady in front of her and was asked to go elsewhere). An obviously tripped-out fellow just one row ahead began to exit mid-performance and proceeded to fall over completely. I was slightly concerned, though primarily amused.

All in all, a very fun show and worth the trip to see it. Being the commander of a very time-consuming mission, however, I was also pleased with the expedient nature of the show. No opening band. The Residents came on, played for nearly two hours, and that was it. It was much more like a small-time theatre production than a rock concert, but this also gave it a lot of its charm.

... Now that I've seen them up close and personal (and still have no idea who they really are), I can get back to the mission at hand.

When we do finally take over this miserable piece of dirt, I will demand that the Residents reveal themselves. And if they do, I just might let them live to continue with their superb auditory experiments.
